New special exhibit at Reagan Library! – “Start Your Engines: American Race Cars”

From May 27-October 23, 2011, a wide array of storied vehicles from the history of American auto racing will be featured.  Visitors will view fire suits, trophies, helmets, gloves and historic cars which were driven by legends such as Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Richard Petty, as well as cars driven by current racers Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Reagan Centennial National Youth Leadership Committee co-chairman Austin Dillon, who will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut later this year. Over a dozen cars in all are displayed.  For more information:

Sixth Annual Simi Valley Freedom Walk

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and MilitaryConnection.com bring to our city the Sixth annual Simi Valley Freedom Walk on Sunday, September 11th.   Please join us as we remember the victims of September 11th, and honor our troops who continue to fight for freedom.  The program will include patriotic music, tributes to the military, law enforcement and the fire department, a flyover, and a 1.8 mile walk (complimentary shuttles will return participants to their cars).

Monterey Bay Aquarium Opens “The Open Sea”

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is transforming the way people see the oceans this summer with the aquarium’s acclaimed OuterBaygalleries re-opening as “The Open Sea,” a new perspective on the vast, virtually unexplored waters of the open sea. This new exhibit will shine light on the epic migrations of ocean animals across the Pacific and the constant motion of life in the open ocean. The debut of “The Open Sea” carries visitors beyond our coasts to a vast world of deep, open water.  Immense swirls of schooling fishes, pulsing jellies, skilled predators such as sharks and tunas, and seasoned travelers like sea turtles and seabirds share this wild territory.  “The OpenSea” brings visitors deep into the heart of this extraordinary environment through transformed live exhibits, new  multimedia experiences and surprising artistic elements. Solvang Celebrates Centennial with Premiere of “My Fairytale”

The Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA) Theaterfest in Solvang, the only professional resident theater company on the Central Californiacoast, presents the American premiere of “My Fairytale.” This musical features the famous Dane, Hans Christian Andersen, and is created by Stephen Schwartz, the award-winning composer of “Godspell,” “Pippin” and “Wicked.” The exclusive engagement will preview under the stars in Solvang on August 26, playing through September 25. “My Fairytale” was first produced by Flemming Enevold as Mit Eventyr in 2005 as part of Denmark’s bi-centennial celebration of Andersen’s birth.  For more information: WWW.SOLVANGUSA.COM

Refurbished Murals by Famed Artist Re-installed

Earthquake damaged large-scale murals by world-renowned muralist Judy Baca have been restored and re-installed at the City ofGuadalupe’s City Hall. Each of the four 300-pound, eight- foot-by-seven-foot, acrylic-on-plywood murals uses vibrant color to depictNorthernSanta BarbaraCounty’s Guadalupe community and its rich history.

Scenes include Chumash Native Americans, a former Spanish adobe, community founders and agricultural laborers. The panels are consecutively titled “The Founders of Guadalupe”; “The Farm Workers of Guadalupe”; “Ethnic Contributions”; and “The Future of Guadalupe.” Commissioned by the Countyof Santa BarbaraArts Commissionas the “Guadalupe Mural Project” in 1990, the murals were removed in 2003 for restoration purposes after developing cracks during the San Simeon earthquake. Visitors may view the murals at the city hall, and, in the next year, the city plans to permanently install the murals on the south wall of Guadalupe’s historic Royal Theatre, so that the art can be seen from scenic Highway 1. Artist Judy Baca is a native Angeleno, visual artist, arts activist and community leader and educator whose work can be seen in the Smithsonian Institution and across the country. Paso Robles’ Hampton Inn Completes Renovation

Paso Robles’ Hampton Inn and Suites recently completed a $2 million renovation. Each of the hotel’s 81 rooms has new carpeting and paint, glass showers, open air vanities and more—all in a unique wine country theme and decor. Forty-three of the guestrooms now boast high-definition plasma televisions, mobile desks and custom artwork. Common areas also got a sprucing up, and the main lobby area has new interior furnishings.

Ojai’s Libbey Bowl to Reopen in June

Libbey Bowl, an Ojai landmark, will reopen in June following a major reconstruction. The Ojai Music Festival is hosting two distinctive celebrations to inaugurate the new Libbey Bowl. The first is a Gala & Concert on June 4 featuring acclaimed soprano Dawn Upshaw and the Festival’s 2011 Music Director. Johnny Cash Music Festival

The Johnny Cash Music Festival is the perfect way to kick off the summer concert season. Taking place under the sun at the breezy Ventura County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 18th, it’s also a great way for dads and their kids to spend quality time over Father’s Day weekend.
